Your First Trail Ride — What to Know
Never been on a horse before? No problem. Most of our visitors are first-timers, and our team is great at making sure everyone feels comfortable and safe. Here’s what to expect when you book a trail ride at Cedar Creek Ranch.
Before You Ride
When you arrive, one of our guides will introduce you to your horse and go over the basics — how to hold the reins, how to steer, and how to stop. Our horses are gentle, experienced trail horses who’ve done this thousands of times. They know the trails better than we do.
What to Wear
You don’t need any special gear. Just wear:
- Closed-toe shoes — sneakers or boots work great (no sandals or flip-flops)
- Long pants — jeans are perfect
- Comfortable layers — it can be cooler under the tree canopy
We provide the helmets if you’d like one.
The Ride
Our trail rides take you through wooded paths, open meadows, and along the creek. It’s peaceful, scenic, and a completely different pace from everyday life. Most rides last about an hour, and our guides are with you the whole time to answer questions and point out wildlife.
Kids Welcome
We offer controlled rides for younger riders (starting at just $20) in a safe, enclosed area. It’s the perfect way to introduce little ones to horses without the longer trail commitment.
Trail rides are $48 per person. Walk-ins welcome, but calling ahead at (815) 481-3337 guarantees your spot — especially on weekends.
